Some backyards just don't work. The slope is too steep to mow safely, water runs wherever it wants, and the whole space ends up being something you ignore instead of enjoy. That was the situation here - an eroded, leaf-covered hillside that ran right down toward a creek with nothing controlling it.
We came in and built multi-tier retaining walls using Versa-Lok block, which is one of our go-to materials for jobs like this. It's engineered for structural performance, holds up long-term, and looks clean once it's done. The walls step down the slope and create level tiers that actually give you somewhere to stand, walk, and use. We also cut in a set of Versa-Lok steps that connect the tiers - so getting from the deck down to the lower yard is easy and safe.
The regrading piece is just as important as the walls themselves. Uncontrolled water running against a foundation is a slow problem that gets expensive fast. We graded the area so water is directed away from the house and moved toward the creek where it belongs. That kind of drainage planning is something we work into every hardscape and construction job - the structure has to function, not just look good.
What you end up with is a backyard that actually makes sense. Green grass, clean retaining walls, defined steps, and a clear path down to the creek. The whole space went from unusable to something the family can actually be out in. That's the goal on every job we do - solve the real problem while making the space something you're proud of.
Good hardscape work does two things at once. It protects your property and it opens up space you weren't using. If you've got a slope that's been giving you headaches - whether it's erosion, drainage, or just wasted yard - this is exactly the kind of work we do.
