A lot of homeowners assume a worn-out paver patio needs to be torn out and replaced. That's not always the case. More often than not, the right maintenance process can bring a tired patio back to looking sharp - without the cost of a full rebuild.

Here's what we typically see on a patio that's been down for a few years: faded color, weeds pushing up through the joints, and sand that's washed out and gone hollow. The pavers themselves are usually still in solid shape. They just need some attention. Pressure washing clears out all the built-up grime, algae, and debris that makes the surface look dull and worn. Once everything is clean and dry, we re-sand the joints - that's what locks the pavers in place and keeps weeds from taking root again. Then comes the sealer, which brings the color back and protects the surface from the elements going forward.

That three-step process - clean, re-sand, seal - is the foundation of good hardscape maintenance. It's not just cosmetic. Fresh joint sand stabilizes the pavers and prevents shifting. Sealer keeps moisture from working its way in and breaking down the base over time. Done right, it extends the life of the patio and reduces how much work it needs down the road.

Summer is when patios take the most foot traffic, so it's a good time to get things dialed in. A patio that's been sitting through wet springs and winter freeze-thaw cycles tends to show it. Getting ahead of the deterioration now means you're not dealing with bigger problems later.

We handle paver maintenance as part of our broader hardscape and construction work. Whether it's a patio that needs a refresh or a new hardscape install from the ground up, we approach it the same way - do it right, and make it last.
