Shrub Removal, Sod Install and Fresh Plantings Give This Backyard a New Life

Sometimes a yard just needs a clean slate. Old shrubs that have overstayed their welcome, bare patches, uneven ground - it all adds up to a space that nobody really wants to spend time in. That's exactly what we were working with here.

We started by pulling out the existing shrubs and clearing the area down to bare dirt. From there, we brought in fresh topsoil and graded everything properly before laying a single piece of sod. That grading step matters more than most people realize - it's what prevents pooling water, uneven settling, and a lawn that looks rough six months down the road.

Once the ground was prepped and level, we laid tall fescue sod across the backyard and side yard. Tall fescue is a solid choice for properties like this - it handles foot traffic well, holds up through varying weather, and stays dense without a ton of fuss. We also tucked in new plantings along the fence line to give the space some life and definition beyond just the lawn itself.

What we ended up with is a yard that's clean, usable, and actually worth stepping outside for. The before-and-after difference here is pretty significant - fresh sod where there was nothing but overgrown shrubs and patchy ground. New plantings along the fence add just enough character without overcomplicating things.
